In the end we did not have enough as we dropped the match in 3 sets. NDSCS is a good team who is well coached, and I would anticipate them making a strong run for the Region Title. With that being said it is much more important to understand what was of value at The Woodshed this evening.

It was the final home match 5 sophomore's will ever have a chance to play in front of our home crowd. As usual the student section, family and supporting fans were great throughout the entire contest. Wins and losses are valued by many programs, but when it's all said and done what is more memorable are the struggles we overcome during a season. "Tough times don't last but tough people do". We play an extremely competitive scheduled filled with a variety of teams who have potential to when Region Tournaments and play for a national bid. The fact this TEAM has stuck together over a span of tough stretches speaks volumes of their character. Krissi Lessman, Halle Schuhmann, Dariann Freer, Ashleigh Aufforth and Leah Parizek will forget about the losses over time, but remember the relationships developed and the bonds tied with teammates.

Moving forward our TEAM is preparing for the Region Tournament. The best thing about a tournament is anything can happen. Each team at the Region Tournament will begin the day 0-0, and the outcome will be determined by play on that day rather than the past. We have been inconsistent so it is hard to say what will happen, but if the past has anything to do with the future this TEAM will rally to go down swinging.

Our 1st match will be Saturday, October 26th at Bismarck State against an opponent to be determined at 11am. The tournament is a double elimination format. We will do our best to communicate with our fans regarding the next match after 11am has been completed.

THANK YOU to those who have hung with the Ladyjack Volleyball Program throughout this season. It was easy to feel the difference between being home and away because of your energy.
This group is dominated by a freshman class who have battled to find confidence and a comfort level on the floor. We have had a series of unfortunate injuries forcing us to alter game strategies which has not made transition into college athletics very smooth at times for our young squad. With that being said I truly believe this TEAM continues to stay positive toward one another, strives to get better daily, and still feels like our best volleyball is ahead of us.

Last night we lost in 4 sets to Lake Region State College who is having a very successful season. They have picked up wins against Williston State and North Dakota State College of Science. We came into play LRSC on their sophomore night and the game was fairly sloppy for the better part of most sets. One key area that has continued to plague this Ladyjack TEAM is our inability to successfully serve at crucial times. Throughout the year WE have failed to put the ball in play at opportune times. Although many of our losses have came to solid teams it is safe to say we can consider ourselves to be "our own worst enemy" when the ball isn't rolling our way.

On a positive note, this TEAM consistently has players step up a different times to carry the load. Sophomore Krissi Lessman, Freshman's Tessa Walters, Savannah Bruce, and Justine Nordin alternate matches in which one or two of them play at a high level. The door will open for our offense the day each of them swings for success on the same night. To their credit the returning players (Ashleigh Aufforth and Leah Parizek) have gone through a major 180 from last year after completing a season of several highlights in 2012, and managed to ride the waves of the season with positive attitudes in tough times.

It does us no good to look backward, this is why our eyes are placed on the front of are heads. The main priority of this TEAM remains the same. Play our best TEAM Volleyball at the end of October! This goal is still achievable from my point of view. This TEAM still seems eager to put the pieces together in time for the Region Tournament.

Over the weekend we will travel to LRSC Classic and compete in four matches. The 1st match is set to take place at 4pm in Devils Lake. Continue to support our Ladyjacks as they deserve our praise in good times, not so good times. Stay tuned for the next blog which will be completed by Sunday evening.
Life lessons are constantly available as we strive to teamwork, work ethic, character, and several other meaningful words. The only problem is these lessons are usually learned during difficult moments. One of the best aspects of college is due to the fact you typically leave home. Sometimes for an individual to find themselves it is necessary to leave safe boundaries in order to gain confidence at level never known to exist.

Our Ladyjack Volleyball TEAM spent 4 days on the road competing against strong opponents during a time we had not played well as of late. We had been on a losing skid and the competition is not going to get weaker. During this stretch we competed in 5 matches in 4 days which is not as exciting as some people might think even when you love the game. Overall we were 1-4 as we lost to NDSCS in 3, NDSCS Alumni in 5, Anoka Ramsey in 5, Jamestown College in 4. Our TEAM successfully defeated in Hibbing CC in 4 sets.

With that being said our Ladyjacks did a great job at playing better day by day, and focusing on the task at hand. Be better today than we were yesterday, don't play the score, and work as hard as WE can. When it was all said and done our TEAM played the best volleyball it has played all year. We are hoping to find the right pace at the right time with the year quickly coming to an end.

Freshman: Savannah Bruce, Tessa Walters, and Justine Nordin have continually improved as far as offensive threats by mixing up attacks. Lauren Pederson and Halle Schumann have been impressive making our defense more solid becoming more consistent passers. Katelyn Lawler was asked to step up her role in several areas when Leah Parizek went down with an injury.

Transfer: Krissi Lessman is a huge factor in all areas with her skill level. She plays hard on every play, is able to score for us, and is a reliable defender.

Sophomore: Ashleigh Aufforth and Parizek continue to be a source of stability with experience. Both do a great job of stepping into matches ready to compete with a higher level of understanding.

With so many new faces we have had our fair share of struggles. Ultimately I believe the TEAM is on track to play our best volleyball to finish the season. WE are beginning to work together at a more successful level, and it will be interesting to see where we are at come end of the month.

Get to "The Woodshed" on Wednesday, October 2nd as we take on Williston State College. The atmosphere has been great as we expect an exciting night.
BSC is now 18-3 while leading the Mon-Dak Conference. They are the longest, most athletic, and overall skilled team we have played and may possibly ever play this year. There is no doubt our overall objective is to be competitive with BSC, and WE had an opportunity to witness what areas we are struggling with at the current moment.

As far as the match being played WE did not execute at the level expected, coaching staff did not make good adjustments on the fly, and our work effort did not show up. The scores were 9-25, 13-25, and 18-25 which clearly explains our lack of good volleyball. As for consistency WE always seem to get better match by match but that habit needs to be corrected. This was a TEAM loss through and through with no blame to be placed on anyone, or anything specific.

With that being said... our TEAM is more talented, more skilled, and overall better position by position than last years group who finished in the final four of the Region Tournament. The TEAM that showed up at BSC was not the TEAM who had been playing well up to this point, and we need to regroup as we move forward. One thing we must do in life is be able to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and understand what mistakes we made leading up to a poor performance. I believe our girls are good enough players, great teammates, and will respond like winners.

Our next trip will take us to Wahpeton, ND as we compete against NDSCS on Wednesday the 25th followed by a 4 match Classic on the 27th, and 28th. It will be a good road trip for us as we set our sights on progress not perfection. WE return home on Oct. 2nd to play Williston State College.
Although we were able to sweep Trinity Bible it was much more difficult than the score may appear as the Lions did a good job of battling all night. We continue to have issues opening up the match with solid play, but appear to get stronger as the sets get deeper. Once we learn to start the match the same way we finish the match there is a good chance of us playing good volleyball down the stretch.

We stress passing, serving, communication as the main keys for us to be successful. Our serving was below the standards that we set but communication, and passing was above average. Defensively the groups was consistent across the board with all players contributing at different times. Offensively the TEAM exploded when Freshman Savannah Bruce got into the action. By far it was the best performance of the year for Bruce as she get more comfortable playing middle. We are pleased but not satisfied with our play as we will strive to be better of the weekend.

Once again our crowd was incredible throughout the match as the student section was able to improve their performance, which was tough to do based on our last home match. There is no doubt "The Woodshed" has been as entertaining of environment you will find in the Mon-Dak Conference, let alone Junior College Volleyball. WE are very thankful for the support and hope the energy bus continues to soar at new heights across the athletic teams competing for DCB. THANK YOU!

This weekend we will take off to Thief River Falls and play four different matches in two days. Every opponent will be different from the previous season and none will be familiar which is a great opportunity to measure ourselves against new adversaries. It is a busy stretch for our Ladyjacks playing five matches in just three days, but it will test our boundaries and our ability to fight through fatigue. We look forward to meeting the challenge with great optimism.
Of course we would have liked to push additional sets but the truth is WSC a difficult place to play, a good team, along with the fact majority of our TEAM still being unfamiliar with level of play necessary to be successful. WE are learning together, growing together, and recognizing areas needed to improve in order for us to become a legitimate contender regardless of the opponent. One area that has become evident for our Ladyjacks is the simple fact the margin for error is so small, and the match can change so quickly based upon a couple of mental errors or poor decision.

From a coaching standpoint we have begun to find some consistency in our lineup. The setting position continues to remain as Ashleigh Aufforth continues to work with our hitters to try and maximize our talents. Krissi Lesmann and Justine Nordin continue to play well from the outside as they combined for the better part of our overall kill total. Leah Parizek is becoming more familiar as we changed her position from Middle-Hitter to Right-Side to allow a bigger front on the net for blocking schematics. Tessa Walters and Savannah Bruce are beginning to figure out what it means to have a presence on the net when altering the opponents swings, as well as becoming a larger part of our offense. Lauren Pederson and Halle Schumann are doing a good job and getter better match by match as players we rely on to field majority of hits. Katelyn Lawler has not played in recent matches but as a coaching staff we are confident she will find a spot in the rotation, because of her overall ability.

With those young Ladyjacks who have not received much playing time, I must say they have been extremely impressive accepting the role of "great teammates" and supporting the players ahead of them. It can be a tough transition from high school, but I truly believe each one of them play a huge factor in the direction of our program. Our bench has been unselfish and willing to help in anyway possible, even if it just means staying positive when times are tough.

WE are back at HOME on Sept. 11th, but the game time is at 5:30p!!! Please check your schedules and show up to support the Ladyjacks against Trinity Bible. Our last home match was the most electric crowd we have had in years!
Our Ladyjack Volleyball TEAM followed up an average day on Friday by bouncing back to split matches on Saturday. We were exciting to watch, fun to coach, and our TEAM seemed to embrace the opportunity to play together. Our primary goal was simple heading into the day which was to play faster/harder, talk louder, and enjoy each other's company. Whether we scored the point or took a spike in the face (which did happen to Krissi) never really mattered, because our only objective was to play the next point to the best of our ability.

The 1st opponent of the day was Dawson CC. Last year their team struggled at times and we had success against them throughout the year. This year is different as a new coach is in command. From the "get go" it was obvious the Dawson team had improved and the match was going to be difficult. When it was all said and done WE would get our first "W" in the win column with the sets totaling 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-16). From top to bottom the TEAM played well, but I was most pleased with our bench that consists of Lexi Barkley, Ashley Nickel, Shaylee Amyotte and Kately Lawler who was struggling with an injury. Those four girls were tremendous all weekend by helping with statistics, providing energy and helping support the TEAM in moments of adversity. Offensively and Defensively it was easily our best game. Krissi Lessman was outstanding on the outside, Leah Parizek was moved to right side and did a great job, Savannah Bruce became a factor and Ashleigh Aufforth made great decisions all match with the ball.

At 5pm we played our 2nd match of the day against Lake Region CC. They are much improved from last year as well, but WE felt good going into the match. The only issue was our bodies did not agree during Set 1 (15-25) as we took it on the chin. Quickly we bounced back but not soon enough dropping Set 2 (21-25), but our Ladyjacks continued to give a strong effort and handled Set 3 with a win very swiftly (25-20). At the end of the day all we wanted to accomplish was a feeling of "emptying the tanks" and giving Lake Region everything we had. Set 4 was extremely exciting with lead changes all the way until the end, but unfortunately we could not push a 5th set falling 22-25 down the stretch. There was no reason to be disappointed as our TEAM played as hard as they could in order to have an opportunity to win.

I must apologize as our statistics are not the greatest due to having new people in the program and trying to teach some of our girls how to help. What I can tell you is Aufforth is doing her best to organize a variety of attacks throughout the match for our hitters. Justin Nordin from Canada has been impressive to say the least with her consistent power and precision when swinging. Lessman, Parizek, Tessa Walters, and Bruce have all impacted the games during important moments. Defensively Lauren Pederson is a player our TEAM has tremendous confidence in to make great passes, while Halle Schumann has been very flexible substituting in for different players as we find our best rotation. She has also added a back row attack to our offensive scheme.

I must say watching our TEAM compete on Saturday leads me to believe we have a ceiling yet to be scratched. Success will come in the form of our preparation and concentration. As this TEAM grows a little older, a little more mature, and a little more competitive it will be interesting to see how good they can be at the end of October. If we keep our horizons short by focusing on being the best TEAM we can be today there is a chance this group of players can compete with many of the upper tier teams.

Finally, we did have a few Hockey Players show up so I must say Thank You to them and the families who traveled to our matches.

It's nice to be home, but our next opponent will be when we travel to Williston State on Thursday, September 5th. The match starts at 7pm.
There is something to be said about getting out of your comfortable environment (home) with a group of people who are all striving to achieve the same goal. For our TEAM the ultimate goal is simple: play are best volleyball at the end of the year. What we seem to forget sometimes is that success can be measured in a variety of ways, and the only way to appreciate success is to face adversity.

Our Ladyjack Volleyball TEAM began competition in the Labor Day Classic at Bismarck State College this morning at 10am against Jamestown College JV. The match was off to a rough start after suffering a 13-25 loss in Set 1 which can simply be attributed to lack of preparation. As a coach I must take the blame because we did not have an interest to compete from the beginning. Things began to get better in Set 2 with a 17-25 loss, and we managed to pull together to take Set 3 25-23. In our final set the score was 13-25 to finish the match. Several of the Ladyjacks played well as Justine Nordin and Krissy Lessman hit the ball as good as they have all year. Lauren Pederson was extremely strong defensively throughout the match with dig after dig. All in all it appeared we were headed in the right direction after shaking off the bus ride which began at 5:30am.

In the 2nd match WE were paired up with Williston State College who has several talented players and a history of strong teams. The 1st two sets were extremely intense, and I believed we were going to steal one or the other down the stretch. Set 1 the score was 19-25 and Set 2 was followed with a 20-25 tally. With a group of freshman it is expected to "tighten up" or become "intimidated" against bigger, and more athletic teams. The challenge will be to gain enough confidence in our skills to believe we may not jump higher or hit harder, but we can play harder and play smarter. As mentioned in the title our 3rd set was somewhat of a bust with a score of 12-25. We seem to struggle down the stretch in all matches (which is 3) up to this point. Once again, an aspect of success which can easily be contributed to maturity and confidence.

Although we do not relay this information to our TEAM, each opponent we have competed against has at least 3-4 more games than we do because they competed a weekend earlier than us. Another struggle has been our lineup has not and will not be consistent until we decide what athlete is best at what position for the betterment of the TEAM. Some of these early struggles can be associated to the altering of our lineup but this is necessary re-evaluate continually early in the year to maximize our talent, and skill levels.

The best news available is the sun comes up tomorrow, and the Ladyjacks will be ready to compete once again.

Hope all is well back home, heard there was a storm.
Last night WE opened up the year by playing Bismarck State College at "The Woodshed". It was an extremely positive event as the crowd was tremendous, and easily the most entertaining any spectators event has been in my time at Dakota College. Thank you to those in the community, and especially our student body for doing such a great job of bringing us energy. WE hope you can sustain the school pride and allow the "team spirit" to spread throughout the athletic programs.

Now, to discuss the actual match played. WE were swept in 3 straight sets by a strong opposing team. As always in athletics the coach and the team must keep the season, or match in proper perspective. For us it was the 1st match of the year, and WE competed against last year's Region Champions who returned several of their key players. To go along with that fact, it was also BSC's 5th match of the year, and we competed with only 2 returning sophomore's (Ashleigh Aufforth/Leah Parizek). The experience was great for our freshman as they received a glimpse of what is in store for the remainder of the season. There is no doubt we will be a better TEAM in the upcoming matches, and throughout the year because I believe we did not play anywhere near our potential.

Aufforth and Parizek played steady last night showing why they are the only returners from a team that finished 4th at the Region tournament. Several of our freshman are expected to be strong contributors, but had somewhat of a rough start. Lauren Pederson, Halle Schumann and Katelyn Lawler will provide a variety of defensive skills but have also shown an ability to score points in different ways. Rotating through the middle with Parizek is Tessa Walters who is a strong athlete with an ability to affect the set with hitting and blocking. A key addition to our offense has been Justine Nordin out of Canada who will provide some power from the outside.

This year is much different from last as our TEAM went from 7 student-athlete's to 15. With that being said majority of our TEAM is local talent, and many of them are striving to find what role they can fill. Last night one of the best aspects of the match was the fact each Ladyjack did a remarkable job of supporting each other whether they were on the floor, or bringing energy from the sideline. This will be a staple of our TEAM as we will constantly evaluate what is best for the TEAM moving forward.

Over the weekend we will be traveling to BSC for a Classic in which we will play 4 matches. I will update the blog on Friday and Saturday evening in order to keep all followers in the loop.

Thanks again to those who came out and made "The Woodshed" one of the best places to be last night.
Where are you going? How will you get there?

These are the questions every TEAM and individual must answer as they go through "life". For us, the plan was simple and that was to be the best player/TEAM we can be everyday. Nobody had any clue what this TEAM would accomplish or what we were capable of with only 7 players. All I know is that our institution, fellow students, and community should be proud of what these student-athletes achieved, because they deserve praise.

When it was all said and done, the Ladyjacks finished the season 15-16 followed by a 4th place finish at the Region Tournament. We began the tournament by losing the 1st round in 3 sets to Williston State who eventually took 2nd place. Our second round opponent was Dakota County Technical College, who beat us in 3 straight sets earlier in the year. This was a tremendous match won in 5 sets, with the last set being 26-24 (final set is only supposed to go to 15). Our Ladies fought tooth and nail to stay alive in the tournament as we went on to face Williston State....again. Although we lost in 3 straight sets it was very clear our TEAM would not lay down for the Tetons as each set was as competitive as you could imagine. It is never easy to finish the year, but there was no regret as we left everything we had on the floor.

Too often players, fans, and coaches get caught up in winning or losing. We forget that practice, bus travel, and road trips become the memories that are ever-lasting. For us the most important aspect of the season was to enjoy the journey, and forget about the destination. Our journey was filled with peaks and valleys. The peaks are what people remember, but bouncing back from the valleys is what this TEAM was all about. Our "legacy" should be completed by memories of a TEAM who never wasted a opportunity to compete regardless of the opponent, and strived to be better today than yesterday.

Hopefully those who followed our season have the same feelings as I do. These 7 Ladyjacks are a remarkable group of talented individuals who gave Bottineau and DCB a product of value. Great students, great people, great TEAM and great competitors.

Although our Ladyjack TEAM was not necessarily "alone" when traveling to Dawson Community College and going 2-0 on Friday, the circumstances had changed because I was not able to be present due to scheduling issues with Men's Basketball. Associate Head Coach Lindsay Manning made the trip and has been tremendous all year, but a Head Coach always gets a little concerned when routine is broken. Fortunately our Ladies had the focus to transfer practice repetitions to a live game and sweep DCC both matches.

With that being said, it is time for us to maintain focus on the most important matter which is preparation for the Region XIII tournament. Finishing 14-14 put our TEAM in 4th place in the Mon-Dak behind BSC, NDSCS, and Williston State. On Friday at 11am we will open up the tournament competing against Williston State. We have yet to win a match but we have grabbed a few sets this year from Williston. Commonly the thought is to make adjustments or changes to a team before they play in a tournament, but for us the equation is simple. Keep doing what we have been doing all year, just do it better. Our TEAM Goal is to get better everyday, and that has been accomplished I believe.

This year the Ladyjacks have been resilient by winning the matches you are supposed to win, and attempting to steal a tough when you are not expected to win. It is difficult to say what expectations are from the community or other institutions but are concern is how well can we play on Friday. Whatever happens after that we will deal with but until then we are in control of how well we can execute at practice day by day until Friday.

I will attempt to keep the blog updated match by match throughout the tournament. Thank you for the continued support from our Ladyjacks, and look forward to seeing what we have left come this weekend.
It was by far our most competitive match with LRSC which could be expected as it was their last home match, so it was evident early on we were not going to be give any points. As a TEAM, we move to 12-14 on the year looking to grab two more wins at Dawson this Friday.

Sometimes the hardest part about being a player or coach is putting the current situation into a realistic perspective. Lately we did not seem to be playing well and our heads appeared to be hanging our heads. REALITY was our TEAM had played exceptional for 20 days and got off track for somewhere around 72 hours. From our perspective it did not seem fitting to be down on our recent play as it became obvious we have the ability to play at a high level for a sustained amount of time.

Jordyn Sondrol played above the blocks last night racking up 19 kills while putting the ball down on almost every set. Jackie Miller once again played a complete game but brought energy, and aggressiveness by totaling 4 aces. Ashleigh Aufforth tied a season high with 32 assists and that stat is probably most impressive because the match only last 3 sets. Although we continually talk offense and scoring, it is our defense which carries us at any time we achieve success. As long as we our willing to play harder/longer than the opponent we will always have a chance.

Unfortunately recent events do not allow me to fill you on on any great happenings...

It has been 3 rough days for the Ladyjacks as we have dropped three of our last four matches. At the Bismarck State Classic we played well on Friday night by being Assiniboine in 3 straight sets, only to drop both matches on Saturday. Saturday began with a competiton against Bismarck State who continues to stand at the top of the Mon-Dak mountain. Although we were picked apart through 3 sets it felt as though we belonged on the same court with 2 out of 3 sets being highly competitive.

What happened next was a surprise...Dakota County Technical College has a few good players, and clearly a good coach after falling to them in 3 sets as well. The problem is not failing to win but rather failing to compete. All of the sudden we have lost our ability to keep a competitive edge while executing a team strategy.

Last night we were at home against Jamestown College JV who has an extrememly good volleyball program at the varsity level, and can be attributed to developing strong players at the JV level. Once again our Ladyjacks would play the beginning of each set with great attitudes, and relentless effort only to fizzle away mid-set all three sets. We had glimpses of solid play but were not able to string together enough winning plays.

As a coach you are aware your team may stumble from time to time, which is not necessarily a bad thing all the time but right now we must be concerned about our overall demeanor moving forward. This group of student-athletes has been tremendous bouncing back, and I believe this mental toughness will continue. If there was a good time to have a few physical/mental errors it would be now as we have two weeks to straighten up leading into the Region XIII Tournament.

Wednesday we will play Lake Region at Devils Lake as we have only two meetings left before the October 26th 1st Rd. of Region Tournament.Dakota Collegehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918908443851633380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736725689118444064.post-62230174021232987812012-10-12T09:15:00.001-05:002012-10-12T09:15:51.104-05:00NDSCS Squeezes by LadyjacksSprint vs. Marathon

Our TEAM has continually discussed the need to understand a competitive college season takes endurance, persistence, and resilience. The 1st meeting with NDSCS was not pretty for our Ladyjacks as it seemed we never stood a chance against a talented opponent. Wednesday evening was a different story as our TEAM competed to win each set although we lost in three (20-25,21-25,19-25). A couple breaks, a couple inches, a couple different calls would have made a difference and allowed our Ladies to possibly put the pressure on NDSCS.

Once again, the outcome may not have been in our favor but the direction of our TEAM continues to go in a positive manner. Teamwork, effort, strategy and enthusiasm will always be our main emphasis. Wednesday was another example of each player having an impact on the game. Hitters like Jackie Miller, Courtney Hart and Josie Degagne were put in a position to make plays as good teams make it a habit to double-team Jordyn Sondrol. Those three combined for 18 kills and Sondrol was became crucial on the defensive end by leading the team with 8 digs. To have your best hitter lead the team in a defensive category is huge, and to trust the other teammates will step up their game when give the opportunity just provides evidence we are making strides. Ashleigh Aufforth was tested to mix-up sets and approaches against a team that makes strong adjustments, but proved she was able to quarterback an offense with 25 assists in an important situation.

We may have not won the battle, but we believe our light is only shining brighter. This weekend we travel to Bismarck State for a three match classic. Along the way we will get another shot at BSC as well as compete against two new schools.

Stay tuned for updats.
At this point we feel that mission has been accomplished, and our ceiling has yet to be reached. We began Saturday afternoon by defeating Dawson CC in 3 sets, followed with a win over Lake Region in 3 sets as well. Our main priority was to emphasize transfer learning from practice to game time. Hitters ran a variety of actions, defense rotated to open areas, and as a TEAM we competed on almost every play. There is no doubt we are happy with our collective play, but the challenge will be to not become satisfied because the peak has not been reached.

Over the weekend several stats stood out, but what seemed to be most impressive was the ability of every player to impact the outcome. Probably the most aggressive attack we had was from the serving line when Josie Degagne and Courtney Hart combined for 11 aces. As usual our offense is at its best with a good pass to our setter, and Ashleigh Aufforth worked to provide ample opportunties for hits as she assisted on 53 kills. Jackie Miller brought her A-game on Saturday racking up 16 kills and 14 digs. Jordyn Sondrol impacted the game from both sides of the net contributing 25 kills, and 8 blocks. Freshmen Amber Gabel and Leah Parizek took advantage of their opportunity while splitting time between back row, and front row. We are finding a good mixture of different ingredients match by match.

The Ladyjacks are 6-2 over the last 8 matches, and look to grab one more home game vs. NDSCS on wednesday evening at 7pm before heading back on the road. Come check us out as it is Homecoming Week!
We were able to avenge a loss earlier in the season on the road which gave us a positive feeling, and believe we are in a great position to continue a successful weekend. Although we were able to get the match, a few adjustments must be made and executed in order for us to improve on Saturday.

Friday night belonged to Sophmore Jordyn Sondrol as she completed the match with 20 kills, and added 3 blocks along the way. Late in the match Trinity did a good job of making it difficult for her, and Jackie Miller picked up the slack with 9 overall kills. More importantly Miller had 5 kills in the final set to put us over the top. Ashleigh Aufforth is getting better by the match at quarterbacking the offense with 29 assists tonight. Defensively we attempted to mix up our approach which caused some confusion but I believe it will be a move that makes us more competitive down the stretch against athletic teams.

Come check out the Ladyjacks on Saturday morning against Dawson Community College at 11am and a match versus Lake Region will begin at 3pm. For those who enjoy volleyball we will also have DCC competing with LRSC between matches at 1pm. Look forward to seeing our community come support the Ladyjacks.
Let's Get Jacked Up.Dakota Collegehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918908443851633380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736725689118444064.post-85414952822338275572012-10-04T12:06:00.002-05:002012-10-04T12:06:39.414-05:00Ladyjacks Fall to WSC in 4 SetsRecently our Ladyjacks TEAM has found the winning formula by going 3-1 in the past week, while winning 7 straight sets along the way. Wednesday evening against Williston State College it appeared we would continue to roll as we made it 8 straight by taking the 1st set on the road. Following an exciting 1st set in which we came from behind to steal an early win, the Tetons found their rhythm and continued to use their size to outplay us by defeating our TEAM the next 3 sets (25-22,25-13,25-17,25-13).

Although a loss is a loss, and moral victories are truly hard to get excited about I felt it was evident this TEAM is improving week by week. WSC is big at the net and our hitters used a variety of attacks to offset the difference in size. Defensively we made a few adjustments that were not specific to beat WSC, but rather prepare us to be collectively better as the season winds down. The TEAM did a good job of executing a new strategy even though we only had two days to install a new philosophy. Jordyn Sondrol continues to be our go to hitter with 14 kills against a usual double team. Jackie Miller, Leah Parizek, and Courtney Hart did a great job of keeping the defense honest by combining for 17 kills. Ashleigh Aufforth did her part by executing a few new attacks from hitters and completing 28 assists.

Competing with WSC is extremely challenging for our Ladyjacks because the lack of size, and athleticism eventually catches up. Our margin for error is very small when we play teams who are as talented as WSC, BSC, and NDSCS but we have also made it clear we can beat you at any given moment. The main priority for our TEAM is to understand there is no room to take a play off or to simply give away a meaningful point by way of poor pass, serving violation, or miscommunication. Those errors are going to be apart of the match, but ours must be few and far between.

Moving forward, we are due for a nice home stretch. Friday evening we will compete against Trinity Bible at 6pm. Saturday, "The Woodshed" will be host to a 3-team triangulr classic with our 1st match beginning at 11pm vs. DCC followed by a 3pm start against Lake Region.

Come join us and catch the Football Game in between matches.
The Ladyjacks played a very tough Central Lakes (14-3) team to begin the classic. We never seemed to find our stride as we dropped 3 straight sets (25-9,25-12,25-16). Although Central Lakes is a difficult matchup for anyone, we were not pleased by our TEAM effort.

Following the match a TEAM meeting took place amongst our Ladies and a few things must have been cleared up, because they bounced back I'm match two vs. St Cloud Tech. The match was grueling as it went 5 sets and our Ladyjacks truly grinded out a much needed victory (25-10, 25-20, 24-25, 24-26, 15-8). Our communication was descriptive, focus was intense, and TEAMWORK was obvious.

Through Day 1 Asheligh Aufforth has combined to set our TEAM with 63 assists while doing a good job of organizing attacks. Jordyn Sondrol has produced 30 kills and Jackie Miller is joining the action with 15 kills to lead the offense. Josie Degagne is continually our defensive anchor with 20 digs. As you know by watching us each player contributes to the Team in a variety of ways.

Day 2 begins with a match against Anoka Ramsey at 10am followed by us aying Hibbings at 1p.
Ladyjacks are in somewhat of a slide at the moment, and the road is not going to get any less bumpy along the way during the upcoming schedule. Tonight's loss in 3 sets to BSC (25-23, 25-12, and 25-12) is not our primary focus, but rather the obstacle WE must overcome.

Bismarck State College is clearly a complete group of talented individuals which is stated on paper by the undefeated mark in the Mon-Dak (6-0), as well as an overall record of 15-4 on the season. Coming out of the gates in set one our intensity, execution, and focus were at an optimal level for us to compete with any team on our schedule as BSC is leading the Mon-Dak. Consistency is our major opponent and not necessarily the other team, because this group of Ladies have proven on multiple occasions they can play at a winning level. Mental mistakes combined with our TEAM effort at critical points in each set created a change in momentum that our TEAM could not overcome. Although the overall outcome may not have been altered in the end, the reflection may have been directed in a more positive manner.

I could throw a few statistics down, and make a few other comments about how each one of our Ladyjacks had moments when they impacted the game but once again that is not what we value as a group. WE believe we are being tested by adversity, and discussed how our true colors will be revealed over the next couple weeks.

We leave Friday for the NDSCS Tournament, and arrive back home on Saturday evening. Continue to stay updated with our Ladyjacks, and continue to support as these group of Ladies are being challenged at this point in the season.
We played a competitive first set vs JC, but seemingly struggled to put any runs together the following two sets (25-17, 25-11, 25-12). Although the ball does not seem to be bouncing our way, WE understand this season is going to be a continual process of improvement as we play with a short bench as well as asking majority of players to impact from positions probably not considered their strong suit.

I was once told by Coach Biesiot at Dickinson State, "Sometimes you just need to play catch better". Sounds extremely simple right, but reality is the pressure of performing at a high level combined with the speed of the game can cause simple mistakes. Right now we are being tested by a tough schedule, gone from home regularly, and questioning our ability because of our recent struggles but WE believe if we keep "showing up" to demand daily improvement we will turn the corner. These Ladyjacks have been impressive in the fact our attitudes do not appear to be shaken, but at the same time it is clear we are disappointed in our recent efforts.

Wednesday is an opportunity for us to bounce back to a level of performance we are accustomed to displaying early on in the year. Our Ladyjacks are Home vs. BSC at 7:00pm with a much needed match at "The Woodshed". BSC is leading the Mon-Dak at the moment, so your presence is huge as support will be needed along the way.

Catch you on Wednesday!
We ran into a well coached and talented group of individuals at Wahpeton as we were swept in 3 straight sets (25-9, 25-12, 25-18). It is difficult to find bright moments when looking at the score, but I believe we at least show some fight as each set grew closer. An excuse would be out of line, but as a TEAM we are struggling getting off the bus and playing with an intensity level necessary to compete.

We are 1-1 on the week thus far and our main priority is to bounce back versus Trinity Bible tomorrow evening at 6pm. Going into the week we knew 3 straight road games would be challenging, but of we can grab one more tomorrow I believe our outlook on the week should be positive. Hopefully we will take a few notes from this loss and transfer learning into our match tomorrow evening.

Our true character and identity will be tested. Catch up with us after we look to bounce back on the road.
Our Ladyjacks showed mental toughness and resilience against adversity to grab a win on the road versus Lake Region in four sets (25-16,19-25,25-17,25-20). There wasn't a set that came easy as Lake Region is improving game by game, and it showed as we began each set in the hole early on. Fortunately we made enough good decisions down the stretch to overcome mental mistakes.

Josie Degagne (9 digs) continues to be our defensive anchor along with solid play by Amber Gagel. Courtney Hart and Jordyn Sondroll commonly lead the offensive attack, but tonight hitting was not as sharp as usual and both did a great job contributing to the back row. Jackie Miller had the hot hand with 9 kills as she continually made aggressive and smart decisions all night. Freshman Leah Parizek was crucial at the net with big plays as she seems to be finding the speed of the game more and more. Ashleigh Aufforth recorded her season high in assists with 29 as she is doing a better job of managing the offense with a variety of attacks. It was not our best TEAM effort, but a win on the road we will take as we prepare for a long week.

We are back in action on Wednesday evening vs Wahpeton, and a quick turn around with a Thursday match in Ellendale. The road trip will be another test of our ability to fight through adversity, and possible fatigue at times. With the win we improve to 4-4 on the year. As a TEAM we are beginning to understand how hard we have to play each point in order to compete at the level we desire.

Scores and comments will continue to be posted following each match.
I believe it is not the loss to the Tetons which is most concerning, but the simple truth we are having trouble sustaining winning plays. Very similar to our match against Rocky Mountain we were able to take the 1st set by outsmarting and outhustling the opponent. We have not indentified any areas which should be considered major issues, but rather continuing the ability to make better decisions down the stretch.

All in all I am pleased with the effort our Ladyjacks have provided day in, and day out. Williston was another difficult match because of their size and athleticism. The most important aspect of our TEAM is the strength of the defense. Offensively we are learning to place the ball in a weak area for the opposing team while combating effective blocking schemes at the net. Without a doubt we are winning as a TEAM and losing as a TEAM with the coaching staff included.

Leaving the locker room we made it very obvious we understand the task at hand. Junior College is an exciting season because the best teams do not certainly have the best record, but are playing their best volleyball come the Region XIII tournament. I believe we are a resilient TEAM with a sophmore oriented group of ladies who are willing to come back on thursday ready to work.

Our Ladyjacks will be back in action on September 17th vs Lake Region on the road at Devils Lake. Dakota Collegehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918908443851633380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736725689118444064.post-89650350976171238662012-09-08T20:07:00.003-05:002012-09-08T20:07:57.361-05:00Dawson CC Classic Overall Success for LadyJacksSPLIT! Although teams practice and prepare to win every game on the schedule, many coaches would agree a split on the road is the main objective.

Our LadyJacks shared moments of spectacular play with moments of adversity during the 4 matches in 2 days. The 2-2 outcome from Friday and Saturday allowed the TEAM to identify what ingredients put us in the best situation to be successful, along with areas of improvement vital to compete against the most difficult of opponents.

We opened up Saturday morning vs the host team in Dawson CC by sweeping the Bucs in 3 sets. Hands down this was our most complete match marked by hustle, teamwork, and an energy that could not be matched. It was exciting to see the LadyJacks compete with a collective purpose while sustaining a focus to improve point by point. Offensively and defensively we reached a new level of performance, it appeared Saturday would be our day.

Then some changes took place. Instead of competing against Williston State we walked onto the court and found Rocky Mountain College JV on the other side of the net. Needless to say they were extremely talented. We were able to take a 1-0 advantage after the 1st set, but the lead quickly disappeared as we dropped the next 3. I was not able to make adjustments to slow down RMC's quick offense and powerful hitters. The game was played at a fast pace, a pace we were not familiar or comfortable with as a TEAM. On a positive note, weaknesses were exposed that need direct attention before we play Tuesday evening at Home against Williston State.
Tomorrow will be an off day as rest is probably most important to us before we play our 6th match in as many days. Overall the DCB LadyJacks are now 3-3 on the season. Come support us at 7pm on tuesday evening as we face-off with Williston State at "The Woodshed".Dakota Collegehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918908443851633380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736725689118444064.post-71025092809335204532012-09-07T21:17:00.002-05:002012-09-07T21:17:22.140-05:00Day 1: Dawson C.C. ClassicToday was a tale of two stories for the DCB LadyJacks Volleyball TEAM. We had a few tactical areas on the travel to begin the morning, causing our TEAM to arrive just minutes before the 1st match began. Although excuses are not acceptable in successful athletics or successful environments it was difficult to find any fluidity during our opening match. Much credit goes to our LadyJacks for responding positively in the second match to bounce back in a strong fashion.
During the first competition we faced University of Great Falls and dropped the match in 4 sets. I'd like to pinpoint a specific problem, but after a 6 hour trip on the bus it just seemed as though we could not sustain energy. Mental errors along with simply being a step slow led to uphill battles in each set. We competed in stretches, but clearly UGF was more prepared and disciplined. From the coaching staff to the individual players we were collectively responsible for the lackluster performance. It was evident our attitudes and our effort needed to improve going into our second match.
Our TEAM ran into a familiar face at 5pm as we squared off with Lake Region, who was our previous opponent from wednesday evening. There was a big difference early on with LRSC and ourselves as they got the jump on us and stole the first set 25-22 after we opened up with a 9-2 lead. For a moment it felt as though our TEAM was not going to be respond from the earlier loss, but just when the coaching staff began to worry our LadyJacks refused to play poorly back to back matches. The next three sets went 25-21, 25-11, 25-11 and hopefully we will continue to play with that same enthusiasm tomorrow.

We begin action tomorrow morning at 11am MT against the host team Dawson C.C. followed up by a 5pm MT match with Williston State. If the last three sets of today are any indication of what can be expected tomorrow, I believe both Dawson and Williston will be facing a group of determined LadyJacks fighting to improve with each play.
